Memorial Health is a community-based, not for profit health system that provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient, home health, hospice, primary and specialty care and urgent care physician services throughout central IllinoisMemorial Health is a growing health system serving central Illinois.  This position is affiliated with Decatur Memorial Hospital, which joined Memorial Health in October 2019 and became the system’s newest affiliate.  This is a unique opportunity for a pulmonology critical care physician interested in joining an established organization with opportunity to further grow and build this service line in collaboration with a supportive health system administration.

Who We’re Looking For:

  1. Via a team approach, the staff will coordinate the patient flow and schedule of the CT modality.
  2. The technologist checks the patients’ chart or scripts to be sure the exam ordered by the physician matches the requisition received by the department.
  3. Use independent professional judgment to assure exam will clinically evaluate the given diagnosis. Refer discrepancies to radiologist or ordering physician.
  4. Prepares the room, equipment, medication and secures supplies needed to perform the exam and maintain a clean and safe environment for patient.
  5. Will adhere to safety standards set forth by the organization in accordance with ACR guidelines (ALARA).
  6. The technologist will explain the procedure and the function of the equipment to the patient as well as answer any questions the patient may have, will intently review the medical history, to include medication lists and lab results, if performed, prior to starting procedure, check patient record for previous pertinent information or procedures, contact radiologist when direction is needed, document appropriate information in the patient record/PACS system.
  7. Performs requested CT exams of appropriate regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the organization and the reading radiologist. Observes patient during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patients’ condition when necessary.
  8. Lifts, moves, and transports patients via wheelchair or cart when necessary.
  9. Maintain knowledge on the composition, storage, and administration of contrast media agents according to department protocols under guidance and approval of a physician.
  10. Transfers, maintains basic quality assurance issues and recalls images from PACS system.
  11. Performs equipment quality checks and troubleshoots when appropriate. Reports any need for service or repair to appropriate leadership.
  12. Participates in ongoing QA/QC and process improvement programs.
  13. Assists in providing a safe work environment and is dedicated to providing patient satisfaction.
  14. Maintain continuing education credits in compliance with licensing agency.
  15. Maintains clinical competency.
  16. Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those regarding infection control, hand hygiene, attendance, and appearance.

The New Graduate Registered Nurse is a full-time registered nurse position with a one-year nationally recognized Nurse Residency Program that assists you in transitioning from a new graduate to a professional nurse. As a New Graduate Registered Nurse, you will receive a carefully planned combination of on-the-job and classroom education.

This program allows you to build relationships with other new RNs and to work collaboratively on a project that is important to advancing the care of our patients.  The New Graduate Registered Nurse will receive support from their Nurse Manager, Preceptor, Mentor, other unit staff as well as a Nursing Outcome Improvement Facilitator.

Our curriculum focuses on 3 core components; Clinical Leadership, Patient Safety and Outcomes and the Professional Role as a Registered Nurse. There are monthly residency sessions that will provide you with a strong foundation for the lifelong learning ahead. The last six months of the program is committed to an evidence based practice project. As a group you will work  with your unit and unit manager on a clinical issue that you see as problematic or an area of improvement.

Capable of modifying existing protocols and building new protocols for the PET/CT scanner.

Capable of resolving camera issues-calling support, rescheduling patients, rearranging the schedule, and able to assist field engineers when needed.

Monitor Preventative Maintenance of both scanner and contrast injector.

Maintain proper safety measures in handling of all radiopharmaceuticals and employee radiation exposure dosage.

Capable of working independently and provide guidance to Level I & II Technologists. Assist with the instruction of radiography students and new employees.

Participate in flexible work hours that coincide with workload demands, overtime required when necessary.

Take call as required to assigned area of department.

Performs other related work as required or requested.

  1. Comply with departmental policies regarding employee/patient incident reports.
  1. Participate in the department’s continuing education program, Laboratory accreditation and case review/quality review processes.
  1. Keep current with clinical developments in the field of ultrasound imaging. Be responsible for continual learning.
  1. Maintain ARDMS or CCI credential through documentation of continuing education requirements of the credentialing organization.
  1. Organize and participate in daily activities that maintain operations: cleaning stocking, equipment evaluation, moving equipment to bedside studies, data entry and evaluation, emergency call rotation, imaging system electrical safety, equipment repair and diagnostics, Imaging and reporting system Dbase maintenance and Sys Admin functions.
  1. Follow SMH policy directives and procedures the performance of duties and responsibilities.
  1. Be an example to the laboratory staff of professionalism, teamwork and patient advocacy.
  1. Demonstrate leadership in helping the team meet strategic goals of the department and the organization.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (CARDIAC):

  1. Maintain skills and expand knowledge in the performance and evaluation of transthoracic echocardiography in the adult population.
  1. Maintain skills and expand knowledge in the performance and evaluation of transesophageal echocardiography in the adult population in standard settings, the surgical suites and Cath Labs.
  1. Maintain skills and expand knowledge in the performance and evaluation of stress echocardiography procedures.
  1. Maintain skills and expand knowledge of the application of echocardiography in pericardial centesis, myocardial biopsy, intracardiac echo, or other interventional procedures.
  1. Maintain skills and expand knowledge in the performance and evaluation of transthoracic echocardiography in the pediatric, neonatal and fetal population.
  1. Possess knowledge and understanding of other cardiac diagnostic testing: cardiac cath, EP, Holter, EKG and arrhythmias, radionuclide imaging.
  1. Maintain skills and expand knowledge of ultrasound contrast agents and their applications.
  1. Recognize and address critical pathology through modification of scan protocols, recommendation of ancillary testing and notification of interpreting physician.
  1. Demonstrate leadership in clinical application of echocardiography.

Required Experience

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Program

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Must be registry eligible at time of hire/transfer
  • Sonographer Registry Pending: New graduate sonographer until active ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) in Cardiac RDCS or Cardiac credentials from CCI (Cardiac Credentialing International) registry passed (max time 6 months)
  • CPR required within 90 days from hire/transfer date

Experience:

Care includes large dressings, use of specialty beds, medication administration, tracheostomy management, drains, wound and oral suctioning, vac pumps, IV fluid administration, IVAC, PAC and IV pain management, capnography, leeching, chest tubes, NG suctioninig and Keofed/GT tube feedings.
