The Repair Technician performs and supervises the cleaning, assembly, repair and maintenance of all equipment provided by Memorial Home Services of CI, this includes home medical equipment, respiratory and all other home medical equipment and maintaining all appropriate documentation.  This service or repair could be for equipment to be delivered in compliance with specific medical requirements, modifications to existing customer equipment, repair of damaged or malfunctioning customer equipment or routine service required by the manufacturer. This position also is required to be a backup for our oxygen trans-filler.

Required Skills

  1. Troubleshooting – Respiratory
  • Diagnose, repair, and/or modify equipment as needed in order to assure proper functioning of respiratory equipment.  This may be done in the shop or in the field.
  • Be skilled in troubleshooting respiratory equipment to determine type of service or parts necessary for repair.  Provide excellent listening and communication skills to customers in troubleshooting service requests via telephone or in person.
  • In case of equipment failure or breakdown, converse with the operator of equipment to ascertain if this mechanical or user error. That may prevent a tech to go out and exchange or repair equipment.  
  1. Equipment Assembly
  • Assemble any new equipment coming in to make sure it is patient ready for patient delivery/pick up.
  1. Repair Respiratory Equipment
  • Provide service or repair for:
  • Equipment to be delivered in compliance with specific medical requirements.
  • Repair of damaged or malfunctioning customer equipment.
  • Routine service required by the manufacturer.
  • Be able to prepare and effectively communicate repair quotes.
  • Be able to repair all types of medical equipment provided, including:
  • Rental DME.
  • Respiratory DME in a timely manner.
  1. Maintenance – All Medical Equipment
  • Inspect incoming rentals for hours used, maintenance needed and repairs required.  Inspect and process returns per company and infection control guidelines.
  • Design and implement test procedures for outgoing and incoming equipment and, as needed, calibrate O2 testing equipment.
  • Follow established maintenance schedule for each piece of rental equipment per specific equipment procedure requirements (concentrators, cylinders) and per manufacturer’s recommendations.  Maintain equipment in good working order and appearance and verify equipment is working properly.
  • Monitor and report abnormal wear and tear to equipment that may be caused by customer misuse or abuse.
  • Replace disposables as needed.
  • When complex repairs are needed, ensure repairs are scheduled and completed.
  • Perform a thorough check on wheelchairs, beds, etc., in house and in the field and verify equipment is working properly.
  • Provide complete thorough documentation on all equipment purchased or rental.
  1. Cleaning and Sterilizing – All Medical Equipment
  • Clean and sterilize equipment and make sure equipment ready for repair and maintenance
  • Equipment is to be logged in the system as cleaned and if repaired.
  • A written log of serial numbers is also documented of cleaned equipment for verification purposes
  • This responsibility is to be rotated between all Repair Technicians
  • Have good organizational skills and detailed oriented
  • Crushes boxes when needed
  • Checks eye wash station weekly
  • Abides by all OSHA guidelines
  • Make sure all cleaning solutions and chemicals are available for cleaning and sterilizing purposes
  1. Quality Improvement
  • Supervise equipment delivered to maintain quality control.
  • Verify complete shipments to customers.
  • Verify equipment sale/rent to be in good working order before delivery.
  • Thorough documentation on all rental equipment, including:
  • Service date.
  • Repair detail.
  • Serial numbers.
  • Cleaning dates and initial.
  • Warranty information
  1. Parts & Equipment Inventory
  • Maintain an adequate and appropriate supply of repair parts.
  • Purchase special parts only as needed and on the most cost efficient basis.
  • Place all items received for stock into their appropriate locations on a daily basis.
  • Perform accurate physical inventory daily on parts and serialized equipment
  1. Shipping and Receiving
  • Possess skill in efficient preparation of products for shipping on a daily basis.
  • Receive all items shipped on a daily basis.  Verify accuracy of shipment, notify appropriate parties of shipments received, and record properly for inventory purposes.  New equipment needs to be unpacked, noted for inventory and stocked quickly.
  • Notify vendor and purchasing of damage or shortage immediately and follow up.
  1. Manuals, Documentation and Knowledge.
  • Maintain up-to-date files of manufacturer’s repair and maintenance manuals on the P Drive of all HME equipment owned by the company (as available) and other related documentation.
  • Have familiarity with service requirements of each piece of equipment owned by this company.
  • Maintain well-organized and current documentation for all maintenance and repair to DME and respiratory related equipment, including equipment tracking and maintenance logs.
  • Create, submit, and maintain proper paperwork for warranty work.
  • When appropriate, be able to create or process proper billing materials.
  1. Trans-filling Back up Required
  • Participates in, and successfully completes, all required onsite, offsite, and on-the-job training to ensure the safe and compliant execution of all job duties. Keeps abreast of procedural and safety changes as new equipment or regulatory guidelines are introduced.
  • Trans-fills bulk liquid oxygen into high pressure cylinders. Adheres to safety and security procedures at each step.
  • Documents processes undertaken as procedures are performed; ensures compliance with FDA documentation requirements.
  • Monitors and updates documentation and tracking system(s) related to the purchase, issuance, recall, repair, and maintenance of oxygen transfer equipment and related components and accessories.
  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.

 

Required Experience

Education:

Education equivalent to graduation from high school is required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Must possess a valid IL driver’s license and be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five year MVR will be required).

Experience:

One or more years of experience in HME/healthcare delivery, warehouse, oxygen, electrical maintenance and repair or related experience preferred but not required.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Possess basic mathematics and personal computer skills, with the ability to retrieve and enter limited amounts of data are required.
  • Must be detailed oriented, organized, focused and personable.
  • Ability to use a variety of medical testing equipment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to push and pull up to 75 pounds.

Required Skills

  1. Operate a variety of electrical equipment in a cardiovascular catheterization laboratory during a variety of procedures.
  1. During the procedure, monitor the patient’s electrocardiogram, alert the physician of any irregular heart activity or change in pressure. Charge the patient appropriately for the procedure.
  1. Is able to properly perform patient pre-procedure teaching. Obtain consent forms signed by the patient prior to the procedure, when appropriate.
  1. Is able to prepare patient for the procedure.
  1. Act as a circulator in the case, connect monitoring lines, check pulses, collect and set up appropriate equipment for the case.
  1. Perform as a sterile assistant, assist the physician in scrubbing and maintaining a sterile field, assist the physician with catheter and/or equipment insertion and removal. Dress and/or suture insertion site following the procedure.  Set up arterial pressure line (if needed) or pull sheath and obtain hemostasis.
  1. Can assist in the use of arterial closure devices.
  1. Record, interpret, and calculate various types of data collected during the procedure.
  1. Maintain equipment, correct equipment malfunctions and report malfunctions for repair.
  1. May instruct technologists and others in the performance of technical procedures, operations of equipment, and collection and interpretation of data.
  1. Has knowledge of the proper operation of x-ray equipment used in the Cath Lab.
  1. Responsible for Quality Assurance of the x-ray equipment. These tests are outlined in the Procedure Manual.
  1. Maintain continuing education classes to assure certification.
  1. Will take call as scheduled.
  1. Can collect appropriate past patient information for the physician to review (old cine films, cath records, etc.)
  1. Adhere to behavioral standards.
  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.

Required Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biology required

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Certification by a national registry for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCP or equivalent) as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or eligible for certification in the above category with subsequent certification within one year of hire date required

Experience:

  • Customer service and laboratory experience preferred

  • Physical requirements include repetitive motions of the hands, bending, stooping, reaching, and carrying objects that may weigh up to 50 lbs.

Required Experience

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Registered radiographer (ARRT-R) in good standing or registry eligible. If not otherwise specified by the professional licensing body, the maximum allowable time to practice in a “registration pending” status is three months.
  • Active license required in radiography from the IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety.
  • Maintain BLS CPR Certification.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and guest relations skills required. Moderate physical effort.

Required Skills

  1. All Imaging Technologists shall provide the best possible care for the patient. Provide assistance to the Radiologist in the performance of special exams. Provides the Radiologist with the best possible images for interpretation.  
  2. Transfers, maintains basic quality assurance issues and recalls images from a PACS system.
  3. The Technologist checks the patients chart or script to be sure the exam ordered by the physician matches the requisition that has been received by the department.
  4. Use independent judgment to assure exam will clinically evaluate the diagnosis given.

  1. Prepares the room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for the performance of diagnostic procedures.
  2. Performs imaging procedures on all age groups, mentally and physically handicapped, traumatically injured and oncology patients.
  3. Maintains rooms and equipment in a clean and disinfected state.
  4. Prepares barium and other chemical mixtures in preparation for x-ray procedure.
  5. Prepares patient for exam explaining procedure, transferring patient to exam table, positions patient and assists patient during the procedure.
  6. Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific x-rays by adjusting equipment, determining proper voltage, current and desired exposure time; arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain proper position of patient; adjust lead shields. Abides by guidelines set forth in ALARA and Image Gently National Campaigns.
  7. Observes patient and equipment during procedure, reports unusual occurrences and records patients’ condition when necessary.
  8. Maintains stock supplies and performs general clerical duties when necessary.
  9. Perform mobile x-rays at the patients’ bedside, in the ER and in the Operating Room.
  10. Actively participates in quality assessment and quality improvement programs.
  11. Transports patients when necessary. Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  12. Adheres to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those regarding Infection control, Hand Hygiene, Attendance and Appearance.
  13. Maintain continuing education credits in compliance with licensing agency.
  14. Actively support the mission, vision, and values set forth by the organization.
  15. Performs other related work as required or requested.

Required Experience

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school for radiologic technologist.
  • Associates degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • ARRT, required.
  • IEMA, required.
  • BLS CPR certification required.

Experience:

Prior computer experience preferred.

Required Skills

  1. Leads and coordinates the work of other Registered Polysomnographic Technologists and sleep lab operations, including: patient scheduling, scheduling of employees to ensure proper coverage, PTO requests, customer service recovery, maintaining chargemaster, advising manager regarding staff performance reviews, and working with manager to formulate yearly budget.
  2. Performs sleep disorder testing on assigned patients.
  3. Analyzes the polysomnographic recording and prepares detailed report of sleep stages, sleep architecture, limb movements, respiratory and cardiac events.
  4. Provides continuing education for professionals, patients, students, and the public to facilitate the proper identification and treatment of patients of all ages with sleep disorders.
  5. Maintains necessary patient records and performs required billing procedures.
  6. Maintains equipment and records as required.
  7. Performs majority of scoring activities for tests performed at TMH.
  8. Collaborates with Insurance Verification Specialist to obtain precertification and verification of benefits.
  9. Maintains log book for studies performed/cancelled/rescheduled.
  10. Tracks wait times for physician reading.
  11. Participates in and maintains quality improvement initiatives/accreditation for the program.
  12. Maintains constant contact with physicians regarding departmental operations.
  13. Assists manager in sleep lab staff development and advancing the level of clinical expertise within the sleep lab department.
  14. Performs other related work as required or requested.

Required Experience

Education:

  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate’s degree with emphasis in polysomnography is required.
  • May consider successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility, or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technologist in lieu of associate’s degree. 

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) is required.
  • Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification is required within 30 days of placement in job.

Experience:

  • At least two years of sleep testing experience is required.
  • Experience in scoring sleep study tests is required.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Outstanding communication skills are required.
