Required Skills
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains the safety and security of patients at high risk for safety events.
- Provides continuous observation and documentation for patients at risk for self-harm, elopement, or injury, as delegated by the RN. These include patients that are suicidal, high fall risk, exhibiting threatening behaviors or experiencing symptoms of dementia or confusion, etc. Under no circumstances is a patient on continuous observation to be left unattended. Visual contact at all times must be maintained.
- Calls out for assistance and/or utilizes call light for assistance in de-escalating patient and addressing at-risk behaviors. Instructs patient to remain in bed or chair at all times until assistance arrives.
- Observes and reports unusual conditions and/or change in patient behavior or appearance to the RN.
- Follows safety checklists as appropriate and assists with ensuring an ongoing safe environment for a patient on continuous observation.
- Assists with documenting adherence to safety checks as directed by the RN.
- Enforces adherence to infection prevention precautions for patients, colleagues, and visitors.
- Follows hospital policies to prevent the transmission of infections.
- Sets up patient room with appropriate signage and PPE supplies.
- Observes donning and doffing of PPE for all personnel entering and exiting the patient room.
- Maintain record of all colleagues entering and exiting the patient room.

Direct and Indirect Medical Education Reimbursement typically exceed $19 million in reimbursement per year.
- Assist the Senior Reimbursement Accountant with preparation of the System and Medical Center Medicare and State Cost reports each fiscal year when the need is necessary.
- Assist the Senior Reimbursement Accountant with organizing and compiling the medical center medical director time records each month. This hourly time record information is maintained and monitored through the medical center’s web-based contract record system called Medi-tract. The information obtained from the medical director time information is required for annual Medicare cost report submissions and critical Wage Index cost report submission each year.

- Assist with the departmental analysis of Rehabilitation CMG quarterly data, Product Line information by Payer category, and Tricare patient day information for reimbursement analysis.
- Assist the Director in compiling the weekly Blue Cross UPP computer file to determine the correct payment for Blue Cross with necessary journal entry to General Accounting.
- Monitor important Managed Care payer groups such as the reconciliation of the UPP reserve analysis, reconciliation of the Health Alliance employee health claims payments, and monitoring of annual Managed Care reimbursement contract term changes.

Position Summary
Conducts mental health crisis assessments and crisis intervention for persons of all ages seeking emergency psychiatric services in a hospital emergency department as part of the Psychiatric Response Team.
Assesses patients’ level of suicide/harm risk and obtains any available collateral information to determine the most appropriate level of care in consultation with ED providers and psychiatrists. Consults and coordinates with medical staff in the ED and inpatient behavioral health unit to ensure patient needs are being appropriately addressed as a healthy disposition plan is created.
Coordinates and facilitates admission to inpatient units, when clinically appropriate. For those clients admitted at an MHS facility, completes insurance pre-certification and ensures that all necessary legal paperwork is completed accurately.
Working with a client in the least restrictive environment is promoted. Assists in coordinating the outpatient care of patients who are not in need of inpatient care and engages patients in developing their safety plan to help them manage future crises. Completes clinical documentation within the electronic health record for all patients that are assessed.

- Develop initial preliminary assessment data including clients’ presenting problems, mental status, relevant psychiatric, medical and developmental histories to make decisions regarding diagnosis (according to DSM-V) and/or to provide information and make appropriate referrals to other treatment resources in the community.
- Provide direct service intervention for emergency department patients.
- Implement crisis or pre-crisis intervention procedures with potentially suicidal, homicidal, or severely disabled clients. Make appropriate referrals to consulting psychiatrists or inpatient psychiatric facilities to prevent further destabilization.
- Coordinate referrals to inpatient and outpatient levels of care for emergency psychiatric assessments.

Client Information System
- Complete required administrative and legal paperwork (such as: voluntary and involuntary paperwork, Case Openings, SMI/SED, Acknowledgment of Voluntary Admission, Insurance Pre-Certifications, etc).
- Collect necessary information for billing and fee collection.
- Provide necessary client information to other agencies or health care providers to coordinate services to identified clients.
- Document assessments directly into the hospital EHR, where applicable, and ensure ED is provided with copies of all documentation when not able to enter directly into the client record.
- Complete insurance pre-certifications, when applicable, for patients being admitted to an MHS inpatient behavioral health unit.
