Required Skills

  • Follows nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, incorporating physical as well as psycho-social needs of designated patient populations in person, and over the telephone. Practices within professional scope and current standards of care. Applies the Minimum Necessary Standard when accessing protected health information.
  • Documents according to professional scope and current standard of care ensuring that entries are complete. Reviews quality audits and makes improvements accordingly.
  • Assists in various aspects of patient flow process including, but not limited to securing/stocking necessary supplies, preparing exam room and patient for examination, assisting the provider with the exam or procedure, providing treatments and medications as ordered by the provider and cleaning/disinfecting exam/treatment area after use.
  • Assists with various aspects of diagnostic testing including obtaining and/or preparing specimens, labeling/recording, and communicating results. Performs miscellaneous CLIA-waived testing. May perform EKG’s/rhythm strips, spirometry, pulse oximetry, nebulizers, as well as other testing outlined by the provider.
  • Assists clinic in meeting financial goals related to revenue and expense. Obtains appropriate insurance referrals and pre-certifications. Finds most cost effective means when securing/stocking necessary supplies.
  • Responsible for working with team to improve processes and implement quality plans, and provide a high level of patient satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates support for and participates in accomplishing team goals and objectives.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.

Required Experience

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Valid state license to practice practical nursing required.
  • Valid CPR certification required.
  • Maintains state required CME.

Experience:

  • Prior computer experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a clinic setting preferred.

  1. Performs coding of outpatient diagnostic accounts- as assigned performs coding analysis on all outpatient diagnostic accounts utilizing 3M and/or other coding products. Abstracts all coded accounts in coding system per procedure.  Ensure ambulatory payment classification (APC) assignment is accurate.

Required Experience

Education:

Associate Degree required.

Required Skills

  1. Perform waived, moderate, and highly complex analytic processes (for which competency has been validated) in each section of the laboratory including limited Microbiology. This includes the pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of such testing according to laboratory and national standards.
  2. After proper instruction, must be able to operate any laboratory instrumentation and perform any required procedure.
  3. Calibrate laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy of test results.
  4. Perform periodic maintenance on laboratory equipment. May be a key analyzer operator with proper training and documentation of skills. Follows the laboratory safety policies and participates in safety education programs.
  5. Perform quality control procedures as specified in SOPs and maintain quality control records necessary for accrediting agencies and quality assurance indicators.
  6. Prepare, label and perform QC on lab reagents and does not report patient results unless QC data are within accepted parameters. Recognized out-of-control values, takes corrective action, and notifies other of changes.
  7. Evaluate and resolve problems related to specimen collection, preparation and analysis.
  8. Utilize academic, technical, and clinical skills and knowledge to evaluate, troubleshoot, research, and resolve day-to-day problems that arise.
  9. Participate in or perform special projects as assigned by the laboratory manager.
  10. Enters and reports results in an accurate, timely, and confidential manner.
  11. Maintain accurate laboratory records and follows laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, specimen identification, requisition, reporting, charting and billing procedures.
  12. Perform internal and external proficiency testing.
  13. Maintain inventory levels and monitor supplies.
  14. Occasional clerical duties and phlebotomy duties may also be assigned as warranted.
  15. Assist in training and evaluation of medical laboratory technician students.
  16. Performs other related work as required or requested.
