Operates within Memorial Health Systems mission, vision, goals and objectives. Pulmonary Supervisor is directly responsible for the safe and efficient flow of Pulmonary Services throughout the hospital. Pulmonary Supervisor role includes balancing both leadership and management responsibilities: staffing, establishing goals and objectives for the unit, formulating standards of care in line with evidence-based practice, managing budgets, and quality improvement activities. Responsible for hiring, coordinating orientation and evaluating staff on an on-going basis. Demonstrates excellent clinical skills and acts as a resource to the staff in all areas of pulmonary care. Collaborates with ancillary departments for timely care to Pulmonary patients and throughput of department operations.   1. Coordinates with SMH Leadership to facilitate the plan for timely placement of admissions, procedures, care plans and transfers.
  1. Partners with Pulmonary Manager on progress of department goals and processes.
  1. Reports Significant clinical events to Pulmonary Manager.
  1. Collaborates with Pulmonary Manager to participate in quality and process improvement in the department during all phases from planning to implementing and sustaining efforts.
  1. Acts as additional chain of command resource of the Pulmonary Department, working effectively with other department leadership in house.
  1. Ensures adequate and appropriate coverage for the unit that considers census, acuity and respiratory interventions needed for patients.
  1. Acts as a resource to nursing and pulmonary staff in problem solving resolution of patient care issues.
  1. Provides supervision and evaluation of clinical skills of pulmonary staff.
  1. Makes rounds on patients, keeping informed of patient conditions/changes.
  1. Directly mentors/educates staff and monitors competence on an ongoing basis.
  1. Keeps up to date with regulatory changes to fulfill requirements necessary to keeping current licensure.

Required Experience

Education:

Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Education Program

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Current licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Illinois.

ACLS, PALS, NRP

Experience:

Two (2) years’ direct care experience in hospital care.

Prefer experience as RT Charge resource

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent verbal communication skills is required.

Ability to work across multiple sites of care required.
