Using independent judgment, perform radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures utilizing a variety of radiology equipment in applying prescribed ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis and treatment. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Possesses the ability to assess the data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs.

Required Skills
- Position patient and/or equipment to efficiently obtain high quality radiographs & perform the proper views for each exam according to department protocol.
- Under the direction of a physician, administer appropriate contrast agents according to department protocol and maintain current knowledge of these agents and their indications/contraindications.
- Ensure appropriate consent forms are signed by the patient or responsible party for contrast procedures.
- Assist physician/students/technologists with radiologic procedures.
- Coordinate procedures with appropriate departments and personnel as needed.
- Utilize knowledge of anatomy and pathology in order to produce high quality images & select proper technical factors (i.e. boluses, filters) to obtain quality images. Use protective devices (i.e. aprons, glove) to follow radiation safety guidelines. Also review images and adjust technical factors or patient position to assist in diagnosis.
- Ensure exams are completed in a prompt manner from receipt or requisition, imaging, and image handling for interpretation – on-site and off-site. Locate film jacket if needed for comparison.
- Utilize effective patient care and communication skills to obtain optimum patient rapport.
- Monitor patient condition and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety and modesty throughout procedures.
- Identify images with accurate, complete, and readable information (patient ID information, Lt/Rt, time, supine/upright, etc.).
- Record patient history and exam information on the requisition as required; consistently monitor requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information.
- Wears film badge to assure compliance with ALARA standards.
- Ensure safety of other personnel and visitors required to remain in unshielded areas.
- Use beam restriction devices to consistently minimize radiation exposure to patients.
- Participate in routine call assignment.
- Maintain cleanliness of rooms, equipment, and other work areas.
- Perform clerical and receptionist tasks, including scheduling of exams and faxing results.
Required Experience
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
- Registered Radiographer (ARRT-R) in good standing or registry eligible. If not otherwise specified by the professional licensing body, the maximum allowable time to practice in a “registration pending” status is three months.
- Active license required in radiography for the IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety.
- Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and guest relations skills.
