Position Summary
Full-Time
Day Shift
Under minimal supervision assists in establishing work priorities, organizing and coordinating activities of HVAC mechanics engaged in installing, testing, troubleshooting and repairing heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Resolves difficult installation and repair problems and completes complex work orders.

Required Skills
- Performs and documents preventive maintenance properly and within time frame indicated on PM work order
- Maintains chiller systems in proper working order
- Maintains air handlers and air conditioners in proper operating condition
- Maintains Pneumatic Control system in proper working condition
- Consistently follows all safety procedures/policies in completing work assignments.
- Provides security where needed
- Responds to hospital emergency code requests.
- Arranges self-directed learning and participates in continuing education on an annual basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Four years apprenticeship training required in areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration or equivalent experience/training.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
In this position, one will be required to be an OSHA certified forklift operator. On site and hands on training will be provided by department leader to meet this requirement.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to apply HVAC theory and national and local HVAC and building codes.
- Ability to locate valves, risers and associated equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to read, understand and apply complex blueprint specifications.
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of HVAC procedures and safety codes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and direct multiple HVAC projects.
- Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and must be deemed as an acceptable driver in accordance with the MHS Fleet Safety Policy (five year MVR will be required). Must be able to operate an automatic or standard shift vehicle.
- Medium to heavy physical effort.
