Required Experience

The Pre-Anesthesia Clinic Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in preparing patients for surgery through comprehensive preoperative evaluation and coordination of care. The RN is responsible for reviewing medical records, conducting pre-anesthesia risk assessments, and collaborating closely with anesthesia providers and the interdisciplinary perioperative team to ensure patients are medically optimized for their procedures.
The registered nurse is responsible for delegation, supervision, and provision of nursing care for a designated group of patients through utilization of the nursing process. They will provide age-appropriate care and will participate in research when appropriate and incorporate research findings into evidence-based clinical practice. In addition, they will contribute to quality improvement processes and adhere to SMH Mission, Vision, and Values, the Nursing Division Mission, Vision, and Philosophy, the ANA Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nursing Act.

WEEKEND ONLY RN: Full-time day shift weekend only position is eligible to receive an additional Weekend Only premium pay.
Surgical -Neuro ICU. Designated by TJC as Comprehensive Stroke Center. Cares for patients who have experienced critical illness as a result of surgery, post-transplant, or neuro event requiring critical care recovery. Very busy environment includes complex patients requiring ventilators, frequent drip titration, frequent nuero checks, various IV lines, surgical site and drain care, CRRT, and external ventricular drain monitoring. Charge RN serves on Code Team and Rapid Response Team.

Required Experience
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
- Current RN license in the State of Illinois required.
- Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Provider or Instructor ACLS certification required within 18 months of hire.
- NRP Provider or Instructor certification required within 18 months of hire for RNs working in the OR.
Experience:
- Meets credit range for Clinical Ladder levels as follows (12 months experience as a registered nurse is required in order to apply for promotion in the clinical ladder):
- Clinical Nurse I: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 0-12 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid. BSN preferred.
- Clinical Nurse II: Registered Nurse who achieves a range of 13-24 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least two categories of the Grid. BSN preferred.
- Clinical Nurse III: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 25 – 35 credits on the Clinical Ladder Behavior Grid with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. BSN or 30+ years’ experience required.
- Clinical Nurse IV: Registered Nurse who achieves at least 36credits on the Clinical Ladder with evidence of behaviors from at least three categories on the Grid. Enrollment in BSN or MSN program or completion of minimum of BSN required.

Required Skills
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcome, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Interviews patients and /or family to obtain required history and determine appropriate Triage status.
- Assists physicians with multiple bedside procedures including but not limited to chest tube insertion, intubation, suturing, lumbar puncture, etc.
- Accurately cares for patients receiving forensic care, ie. Blood alcohol levels, workers compensation, rape, patient abuse.
