2G Bariatrics/Plastics: Surgical unit with subspecialties of plastics reconstruction/flaps with neurovascular monitoring that includes limb re-attachment, deep wounds (including vac dressings), sacral flaps, free flaps, breast reconstruction and tram flaps, as well as bariatric surgical patients, gynecology and general surgery patients. Care includes large dressings, use of specialty beds, medication administration, tracheostomy management, drains, wound and oral suctioning, vac pumps, IV fluid administration, IVAC, PAC and IV pain management, capnography, leeching, chest tubes, NG suctioninig and Keofed/GT tube feedings.

**MUST HAVE Operating Room CIRCULATOR EXPERIENCE**

The Baylis Day Surgery Department provides outpatient surgeries in the specialties that include, but aren’t limited to Plastics, Orthopedics, General, Urology, Breast, Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental and Pain Management. The Baylis Registered Nurse (RN) encompasses continuity of care from admission though discharge process.  The Pre/Post Op Nurse admits and prepares patients for surgical procedures, and later recovers for discharge. While the Circulator Nurse escorts the patient to the OR and then will position, prep, and serve as the liaison between the surgeon and family members, keeping the family up to date. Upon completion of the procedure, the Circulator Nurse will transfer the patient to the stretcher and take to the recovery room.

Our CMN Representative is responsible for monitoring Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN) and prescription activity in a timely manner. Key responsibilities include the prompt submission of CMNs, consistent follow-up and tracking, staying current with coverage criteria changes, and providing timely responses to referral sources and internal staff.

Required Skills

  • Retrieve access and print Certificates of Medical Necessity (CMNs) from the billing software. Prepare and forward CMNs to attending physicians for timely completion and signature.
  • Document and monitor both paper and electronic systems to ensure proper issuance of clinical orders and CMNs, avoiding duplication or oversight.

  • Verify clinical orders against Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party insurance billing requirements. Secure or issue additional documentation as needed to meet payer guidelines.

  • Use “tickler” files and system-generated reports to track the timely return of clinical orders and CMNs. Reissue duplicates and follow up with physician offices via phone or in person, as necessary.

  • Receive, sort, and distribute completed and approved CMNs. Accurately log and maintain customer data in the billing software system.

  • Communicate with physician offices—via mail, phone, fax, or in person—to resolve incomplete or incorrect CMNs.

  • Regularly review and monitor the unbilled CMN report to ensure all outstanding items are resolved within pre-approved timelines.

  • Provide feedback and suggestions to the marketing team to improve CMN processes and enhance documentation workflows with physician offices.

  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Required Experience

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and meet the requirements of the MHS Fleet Safety Policy.

  • Must have access to a personal vehicle with current proof of insurance.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one year of medical experience is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of medical equipment and medical terminology is highly desirable.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), are required.

  • Must be thorough and detail-oriented, with strong decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with physician office staff.

  • Must be able to multitask effectively, work independently, and consistently achieve goals related to CMN receipt processing.

  1. Works to further establish advanced clinical expertise and skills with regards to their specialty area.
  1. Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities specific to their specialty area.
  1. Maintains an active role in community and professional programs.
  1. Assists in meeting financial goals related to revenue and expense. Maintains productivity according to budget. Communicates when expected volumes are not met or when opportunities exist to improve productivity or decrease cost.
  1. Assists in meeting customer service goals by delivering care in a manner consistent with a high level of patient satisfaction. Reviews survey results and looks for ways to improve.
  1. Demonstrates support for and participates in accomplishing team goals and objectives.
  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.

Required Experience

Requirements:

  1. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner required or FNP as determined by the department.
  2. Must possess and maintain licensing as required by Illinois State law for APN.
  3. Minimum of 1 year post-graduate school experience as an APN preferred.

  • Performs medical case management, following established departmental policies and procedures.
    • Performs routine exams and obtains patient histories.

    • Initiates treatments via prescriptions, tests, exams, and procedures.
    • Performs routine health maintenance activities for established patients.
    • Evaluates and treats work related injuries.
  • Documents all care and completed all other required paperwork.
  • Writes progress notes on patients’ charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed.
  • Develops, writes and /or updates Nurse Practitioner practice protocol annually, with physicians review.
  • Assists the physician in monitoring the quality of medical services provided within the department.
  • Performs administrative duties such as writing admission orders, working with staff regarding patient problems scheduling, records and other related duties.
  • Maintains and uses knowledge of current medical practice and skills.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Current CPR card.
  • Strong computer skills for documentation purposes in the electronic medical record.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and algebra.  
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
  • Ability to work under stress and unpredictable situations in handling injury situations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.

Education and/or Other Requirements

Must be Registered Nurse licensed in Illinois.  Successful completion of a formal nurse practitioner program approved by a national accrediting agency required.  Must be certified by a national certified organization recognized by the State Board of Nursing.
